Auto Quit Applications

Auto Quit helps you stay focused by automatically closing applications after periods of inactivity. It's designed to minimize distractions and keep you in your flow state by removing apps you don't actively need.

How to Use

Enable Auto Quit

Find the application in Raycast’ root search. Then press ⌘ K to open the Action Panel and select the Enable Auto Quit action. If the app is running, a small orange dot under the app icon in Raycast’s root search, signals that Auto Quit is enabled for the app. The app will now automatically close after 3 minutes of inactivity.

You can change the interval after the app will be terminated via the application’s settings in Raycast.

Disable Auto Quit

Find the application in Raycast’s root search. Then press ⌘ K to open the Action Panel and select the Disable Auto Quit action. Alternatively, you can go to Settings → Extensions → Applications → App and click the Disable Auto Quit button in the right inspector.

Smart Setup (PRO)

With the Smart Setup action, it’s even quicker to enable suitable applications. Simply select a category, and AI will assist by adding applications for you.

Best Practices

Auto Quit works best with:

  • Messaging apps like Slack, WhatsApp, etc.
  • Calendar apps
  • Social media clients like 𝕏, Bluesky, etc.
  • Any apps you only need temporarily

Avoid enabling Auto Quit for applications essential to your workflow or that need to run continuously in the background.
