Usage Limits
Raycast AI puts powerful models from all major providers right at your fingertips. It runs on credits: every paid plan includes a monthly allowance, and you can top up whenever you need more. Raycast Free doesn't include AI.
Credits apply only to inference provided by Raycast AI. Models you bring yourself follow your own provider's limits instead.
Monthly Credits
| Plan | Monthly credits | AI models |
|---|---|---|
| Raycast Pro | 500 | Fast and powerful models |
| Raycast Pro+ | 3,000 | All models, including top-tier |
| Raycast Max | 7,500 | All models, including top-tier |
Every paid plan includes fast and powerful models from all leading providers. Pro+ and Max also unlock every model, including top-tier models for your most demanding tasks, alongside a bigger monthly allowance. Browse the full lineup on the models page on the Raycast website or in Settings → AI → Models & Providers → Manage Models.
See Billing for plan details, or head to raycast.com/pricing for the latest pricing information.
Top-Tier Models
Top-tier models are exclusive to Raycast Pro+ and Raycast Max plans, and this list will evolve as new frontier models are released:
OpenAI
Anthropic
How Credits Are Used
Credits measure AI usage, not a fixed number of messages. How many you use depends on the model and how much text it reads and writes. Long conversations, attachments, tool calls, and regenerated or edited messages all add up.
The model picker preview shows a Cost meter next to Speed and Intelligence, so you can compare how quickly models spend credits before you pick one. Input and output are priced differently, so the same prompt can cost different amounts on different models.
Check Your Balance
Open Settings → Account to see your remaining credits and the next renewal date. Choose Show details to open AI Usage. Switch between Today, Last 7 Days, and Last 30 Days to see Usage by Model and Usage Over Time. Credit Activity lists every credit grant, such as monthly credits and top-up credits, with the date it arrived and when it expires.
Your monthly allowance renews each month, and unused monthly credits roll over for one extra billing cycle: each monthly grant expires 60 days after it's granted. Free trial credits expire 7 days after they're granted, and if you upgrade during your trial, your remaining trial credits are used before your monthly credits.
Cancelling your plan doesn't change when your credits expire, but an active paid subscription is required to use them. If you cancel, any remaining credits stay on your account until their expiry dates, and you'll need to resubscribe to use them, as AI features aren't available on the Free plan.
Usage in AI Chat
Type /usage in the composer to see how many credits you've used and when new ones arrive, with buttons to Upgrade or Top Up.
When you're running low, a Low Credits pill appears above the composer. It changes to No Credits Left once they're gone. Click it to open the same panel. If a response stops because you ran out, top up or switch models, then choose Try Again.
To see what a single response cost, choose Show AI usage on it for a breakdown of Input Credits, Output Credits, and Total Credits. The chat settings sidebar adds up the whole conversation under Usage and are hidden when using Bring Your Own AI models, since they don't use your AI credits.
Top Up Credits
Choose Top Up in Settings → Account, select an AI credit package, and complete the purchase. You can buy top-ups at any time, including before your monthly allowance runs out. Top-ups come in packages of 500, 2,500, 5,000, and 10,000 credits; current prices appear in the purchase dialog.
Top Ups aren't available during the Raycast Pro free trial. Top-ups unlock once you're outside the trial period.
Credits are used in order of expiry date, so the credits that expire first are spent first. This usually means monthly credits are used before top-up credits. Top-up credits expire 12 months after purchase, and an active paid subscription is required to use them. On Teams plans, top-ups are per member and aren't pooled across the team.
When You Run Out
When both your monthly credits and top-up credits are exhausted, Raycast AI stops until your next allowance arrives or you purchase a top-up. You can also select a model supplied through your own connected subscription, API key, custom provider, or local model.
A provider rate limit is different from an empty credit balance. Follow the retry or reset information in the error message; buying credits does not remove a provider's rate limit.
Bring Your Own AI
A paid Raycast plan is required to bring your own AI into Raycast, including these options in Raycast v2:
- Bring Your Own Subscription: Model usage goes towards your connected Claude or ChatGPT subscription.
- Bring Your Own Key: Model usage is billed to your API account by the provider.
- Custom Providers: Model usage follows your provider's billing and limits.
- Local Models: Inference runs on your local hardware through Ollama.
Raycast v1 Considerations
If you're still on Raycast v1 with a Raycast Pro or Raycast Pro+ subscription, credits apply to you too, with a transition period to give you time to update.
- Models: Your model list stays exactly as it is today. New models and top-tier models added to Raycast Pro+ and Raycast Max from September 10, 2026, are only available in Raycast v2.
- Before October 1, 2026: Raycast tracks your usage and credit balance, but nothing changes in practice. When your credits reach 0, you can keep using AI without errors, under the same request limits as today:
- Pro models: 50 requests per minute and 300 requests per hour, shared across all Pro models. o3-mini and o4-mini are limited to 150 requests per 24 hours.
- Advanced AI models (Pro+): 75 requests per 3 hours and 150 requests per 24 hours.
- Exceptions - 50 requests per week per model
- OpenAI: o1, GPT-4, GPT-5.5, GPT-5.5 Instant, GPT-5.6 Sol, and GPT-6 Astra
- Anthropic: Claude Opus 4.7, 4.8, and 5.
- Exceptions - 50 requests per week per model
- From October 1, 2026: When your credits reach 0, Raycast AI stops and shows a message: You've used all your AI credits. Update Raycast to continue, or wait until October 15, 2026. The date shown is when your next monthly credits arrive.
Update to Raycast v2 to get top-ups, the full AI model lineup, and everything else new in Raycast v2. Your subscription carries over as is.
